
CHAPTER EIGHT: CAMPUS POLICE AND SAFETY
SECTION ONE
ANIMAL CONTROL
I. AUTHORITY:
Authority to establish rules for the University is given in Chapters 120.53(1)(a) and 240.227(1), Florida Statutes.
II. POLICY:
The campus of Florida Gulf Coast University is located in an area where wildlife can be and has been found. This wildlife includes several species that are on the Federal Endangered/Protected species list the disturbance of which is a violation of Federal law. It shall be the policy of the University to maintain the ecology of the University property including the native wildlife.
III. REQUIREMENTS:
A. Warning notices of protected species shall be posted at various locations throughout the campus. Trained members of the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission shall accomplish the relocation, removal and/or destruction of wildlife from the University.
B. Keeping pets on campus, except for guide dogs, are prohibited.
C. Removal of stray/abandoned domestic animals (cats, dogs) shall be accomplished by the Lee County Humane Societys Animal Control Unit.
