Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship
An opportunity to enhance relationships
with business partners as we work together to ensure students become educated
in fields of our common interests
Employees and friends of the Florida Gulf Coast University Physical
Plant and FGCU Foundation recently established a scholarship fund that will
financially assist qualified students enrolled in environmental engineering,
civil engineering and environmental studies; annually, in perpetuity.
Physical Plant Assistant Director, Vikki McConnell, realized that
annual employee contributions would make a larger impact if combined. The
Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship is an opportunity to enhance relationships
with business partners as we work together to ensure students become educated
in fields of our common interests, Engineering and Environmental Studies.
Current scholarship recipients also work part time for Physical
Plant which enhances their applied skills in their chosen fields and enables
them to earn extra money and work experience. This relationship provides an
opportunity for donors to meet and know the students that are supported through
this valuable partnership.
Reaching Out to Students
Jim Hehl, Physical Plant Director, states, “The Scholarship
program is a point of pride for the Physical Plant. Our hope is that others
will see the generosity of our employees and want to partner with us to enhance
opportunities for growth in engineering and environmental majors.”
Physical Plant Coordinator, Troy Kelly, states, “Students in our
department are a constant reminder of why we are here and who we are here to
serve.”
Physical Plant is actively involved with students, employing over
90 students since 1997, including 34 work study and 12 international students.

As FGCU moves forward,
so does the commitment of Physical Plant to support student excellence.
Scholarships will be
awarded to students who major in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering
or Environmental Studies.
Students must
demonstrate leadership, service and social awareness in relation to the design
and development of systems, processes, and tools needed for the protection of
the environment, human health, and natural ecosystems.
The potential to
transform the lives of students is in the many hands of our community. Please
join us in our commitment to student success.
Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship Fund Grows
Physical Plant received generous and significant
gifts from ATP Engineering South, B&I contractors and Simplex Grinnell in
support of the scholarship fund.

ATP Engineering South retrofitted the chilled water system,
which resulted in energy savings throughout campus.

B&I Contractors have installed mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in buildings on the FGCU campus.

Simplex Grinnell has installed and maintained fire
alarms, sprinklers, panic devices and other safety related systems since the
FGCU campus opened in 1997.
