Recycling |
Physical Plant provides well-marked collection
containers in strategically placed locations throughout the campus for the
deposit of mixed paper, aluminum cans, and glass and plastic bottles. For
more information on recycling efforts on campus, click here. |
The custodial contractor is responsible for emptying the collection containers into 95 gallon recycle carts provided by a waste disposal contractor under contract with Lee County. |
Individual departments, offices, or other units may be provided with blue baskets to supplement the collection of office paper. |
The custodial contractor is responsible for emptying the contents of these baskets into the collector container, or, the 95-gallon carts provided for University use only. |
This is scheduled on a weekly basis and picked up every Friday, or by request for special items such as large quantities of shredded paper, cases of brochures, etc. |

Newspaper |
University personnel are generally responsible for the deposit of discarded newspaper in the large containers marked “NEWSPAPER ONLY”. These are located on the first floor of Academic Building 3 and the second floor of the Student Union. The large collection container for newspaper is located behind Howard Hall. |
Cardboard |
Large recycle containers for cardboard are located on
campus: one behind Howard Hall, one behind the Student Union, one behind Alico
Arena, and one behind the Campus Support Complex. |
University personnel are responsible for breaking down all cardboard boxes before placing them outside of their areas for collection by the custodial staff, which then transports the materials to the containers. Stickers marked “recycle” are available at the Work Management Center if needed for placement on cardboard. The Work Management Center can be reached at 590-1370 or wmc@fgcu.edu. |
